iii) Now
In 2019, I relocated from Ho Chi Minh City to Cape Town, South Africa. I intended to split my time between Ireland, the UK, Cape Town & Southeast Asia, but then a pandemic happened, and Cape Town became HQ. No bad thing, that.
In my time here I've helped build a number of new websites, developed brand voices, managed remote creative teams, written scripts and blog articles, and have written ad copy for the likes of Carrol Boyes and Vodacom.
I have happy clients in South Africa, the UK, Ireland, the USA, Australia, Italy, Spain, China, Vietnam & Hong Kong.
ii) The Saigon Years (2013 - 2019)
I cut my editorial teeth as a staff writer & copy editor for Vietcetera, one of Vietnam's most celebrated lifestyle, business & culture magazines.
In 2018, I co-authored Fodor's Essential Vietnam travel guide (print & online).
During this period I also contributed stories to the likes of Roads & Kingdoms, VNExpress International, Belfast Live, and SMILE magazine by Cebu Pacific Air.
I also broadened my skills by working on ad & website copy for businesses in the region, as well as copy-editing for high profile clients such as Cushman & Wakefield and the British Council.

i) The Early Stuff (1989 - 2013)
I grew up in rural Ireland, read a lot of books, listened to a lot of music, watched a lot of films, and played a lot of sports.
My graduation from Queen's University Belfast in 2011 coincided perfectly with the economic recession.
And so my search for a career brought me all the way to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam, where I took up a job teaching English at a high school, and moonlighting as a features journalist & copy writer.
I suppose that's where my story really begins, but this story ends.
